The timeline of Possibility
Before Jesus’ coming, however, God is seen as continuously attempting to reconcile with us. He tried to form us into a civil nation. He did this by creating many covenants with us and by sending chosen persons to call us back to Himself. He finally sent His Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ as a human being on earth to make that new and eternal covenant with us, so that, through His life, death and resurrection, we all gain salvation. Salvation History can be found in those Books in the Bible we call the Old Testament. The Old Testament can be divided into three parts: Law, Prophets and Wisdom.
It begins with God creating everything, including mankind (Gen 1&2)
He created man and woman for the purpose of a relationship in sharing His love and living His love.
Sin entered and disrupted that relationship. It affected God, it affected Adam and Eve individually, it affected their relationship with each other and then, all of creation.
However, God, in His nature of love, was determined to deal with sin and reconcile us to Himself (Rom 5: 12 – 21).
He started by forming us into a nation, beginning with Abraham (Gen 12: 1 – 3), until He sent Moses who gave the law (Ex 20: 1 – 17), to guide us in right living.
Over that time too, God sent specially chosen persons, we call Prophets. These persons were sent by God to guide, to give His Word and messages, to warn us away from wrong paths and to encourage and give us hope. Some of these persons we know as Samuel, Ezekiel, Isaiah and Jeremiah, to name a few.
The Books in the Old Testament called the Wisdom Texts, tell us about God showing us the need for more than understanding and knowledge, to live a happy life. He tells us that we need Wisdom, a gift of His Holy Spirit, to be able to face the challenges of life and to be able to live not only a happy life, but also, a righteous life with Him in love.
